Another night at the Marquis theater in Denver and it was the day after St. Patrick's day, meaning the streets were still full and lively. I arrived at the venue eager to check out the bands playing. I had been watching their socials for the last week, building up my anticipation. I made my way in and got my stuff settled, ready to have an energetic night. The lights dimmed and that was the last time I felt cool air blowing in the venue because from that moment on, the jumping and dancing never stopped.

Coming out strong, Dogma Society took to the stage, starting with their song “MUTE” which immediately had the crowd moving along. This Utah based band is a genre fusing collective that pays homage to their hometown and diversity they grew up around. Having a dream of pursuing music since they were younger to now bringing the Salt Lake energy to stages around the world, they have relished as “rewarding”.

Dogma really does have genuine fun on stage as they were laughing with each other during songs and smiling in other moments where they were really taking in the energy and essence of the crowd. Mid-show, they asked the audience if anyone had heard of Dogma before, and more than half the crowd signaled back that they did, in fact, know who they were. As an audience member, this was so heartwarming but as a band, I can’t even imagine the joy that was brought to each and every member on stage.

Dogma was not afraid of being in contact with the crowd, as they were getting really close to the front and extending the vibe that this already intimate venue brings. Fan and crowd connection was a big factor for them, as they brought props and party favors for the audience. They had glow sticks, glow bracelets, candy, and even handmade balloon animals they were tossing into the crowd. Real hosts of a party! They even convinced the entire crowd to get as low as they could, and everyone listened. Every single person in that room was crouched down, ready for the beat to drop in order to really let loose one last time.

As they walked off stage, they left the audience wanting for more, marking this the first time I have ever witnessed a crowd ask an opening act for an encore. They had started making their way off stage but all turned around and said “Okay, I guess we have time for one more” as the members were laughing and smiling and preparing for their final song. Dogma Society was such a fun and energetic group and they have big things coming for them, if you do not know who they are already, may I suggest tapping in ASAP.

Debuting in 2021 Alexsucks is a band that is here to solidify their place in the world of garage rock. Though the band formed in Los Angeles, vocalist Alex Alvarez made a stop in Denver, where he grew up, in which the fans coined him as the “Hometown Hero”. This show was sweaty, it was energetic, it was crowd surfing like I have never seen before. There were fans surfing to the front and then right to the back again, of course not after stage diving a few times, in which the entire band loved and laughed at.

The audience was very diverse, there were listeners of all ages there, decked out in alexsucks merch ready to immerse themselves in the show and have fun for the night. There were moments where I looked to my left and a group of older men were soaked from head to toe in sweat, and then I looked over to my right and there was a father and daughter duo who were also soaked in sweat. Music has no age restrictions and as the saying goes, music really is the universal language.

Having such a strong background in skateboarding, including being the reason the band was initiated, it is in true alexsucks fashion to visit skateparks on tour. Having lived in Denver for the majority of his life, Alex mentioned his favorite skate spot was in his hometown.

Watching these guys on stage was a remarkable experience, you can tell they really have a strong bond with each other and they are so happy to be on that stage playing music for everyone and having as much fun as they can. There was no time for rest on that stage, from the moment they stepped foot out into those lights to the moment they disappeared behind the curtains, there was not a moment where dancing was not necessary. Playing all their upbeat and hype songs, alexsucks made for a show many people will never forget. When they did finally play one slower song, they made it a point to note that it would be their only one of the night. Although the song was a slower tempo, the audience was still locked in on the act and singing along to every word, which made the show all the more heartwarming.

One thing that is for certain about alexsucks, besides their music being fun and fresh, they have an extremely dedicated fanbase. There were people waiting in line early with custom drawings and gifts to bring to the band. From handmade outfits to dancing all night and giving all their energy through each song, alexsucks has a strong audience and fanbase that will continue to be there for their journey through music. Leaving the concert feeling inspired, sweaty, and a new admiration for the relationship alexsucks has fostered with their audience, they will continue to shine and grow!
